Missing War(s)

Program Type: VA

Why this happens: This error occurs in veteran-specific project enrollments when the client is identified as a veteran, but the War Period section in the Veteran Information sub-assessment is incomplete.

HUD and VA data standards require each veteran’s active-duty history to be fully documented. If any war-period drop-down field is left blank, CMIS flags the record as an error.

How to fix this:

1. Open the client’s profile and navigate to the project enrollment under Entry/Exit. Use backdate mode when available; for shelter enrollments, backdate manually, within entry/exit assessment, because this function is locked. Make sure you are using Enter Data As mode for the correct provider program.

2. Scroll down to the Veteran Information sub-assessment table.

3. Click the edit pencil icon directly next to entry that you want to edit, to open the sub-assessment entry to make changes.

4. Select a response (Yes or No) for EVERY single war period to clear the error. Leaving any of them blank keeps the error active.

5. Review client records or intake paperwork to ensure that the correct options are selected.

6. Note for Peacetime/Non-combat Veterans: If the veteran served during a period of peacetime and did not serve in an active combat theater, you need to change every war option to “No” rather than leaving them empty.

7. Click “Save” at the bottom of the sub-assessment.
